Research/Context

For this project I will research into the history of communication including delivery methods (such as carrier pigeon) and tools (such as the typewriter).  I will also look at the history of the document and how companies involved in communication adapted to the changes in technology.  I will look at the previous ways people have expressed themselves and communicated with each other and how, as technology has advanced, the ways in which societies interactions have changed.   Ewan Clayton A History of Learning to Write could be a good source of information for research.
We live in a 24/7, always open culture.  People don’t want to wait a day, a week or even a month for information: they want to know immediately.  This results in a new culture of people who communicate without thinking.  “A study by the AAA discovered that an alarming 46% of teens admitted to being distracted behind the wheel due to texting.” (wikipedia.com)
I’d like to research why people feel the need to express themselves in society and why people like to share every aspect of their lives with other people whom they probably don’t even know socially.
